Here’s something to cheer me up…

19 03 2008

Like in any good fairy tale just as soon as I was about to lose all hope (today I found news, old news, but new to me, that Terminator 4 will be released sometime in 2009) I stumble along something that I am reasonably excited for. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead. Now, I know…it sounds like a cheap knock off, but it’s not! Watch the trailer if you don’t believe me. Here we have two of the greatest things on earth: Shakespeare (Halmlet to be exact) and Vampires. Can we say “heaven” class? Because that is what this is. For me, anyway.

From what I got from reading around is it’s about a guy who gets the chance to direct an off-Broadway version of Hamlet that was written (surprise!) by a vampire. Turns out that the play is cursed and anyone involved with it dies or becomes a vampire. (I always knew Shakespeare had a few more cards up his sleeve)

The movie looks to be jam packed with hot guys and gorgeous vampires. Oh, and Hamlet. I really don’t think I could ask for more. Finally something fresh that isn’t a sequel. This film doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it should be out sometime this year. It is also classified under Comedy and Horror (two things that should always go hand in hand!) and is not rated yet.

From feeling absolutely hopeless in the film to being this excited about something really brightens my day. Smiles anyone? :)

More sad news…

Okay people. Just because a movie is excellent and has become a cult classic doesn’t, I repeat, DOES NOT, mean that it needs a sequel. Leave the classics ALONE. I just found on FirstShowing.net that The Boondock Saints (another example of an excellent film) has been greenlighted for a sequel. The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day (oh GOD it’s even a cheestacular name title…)

The only hope is that the announcement was released on YouTube via SlashFilm and seems a little shady. It was almost immediately removed from YouTube, but can still be seen on SlashFilm. The site says that the cast will remain the same as in the original (minus Willliam Dafoe) but that can only save so much. Filming is said to begin this summer.

I hope it falls through. I want some of these writers and film-makers to take a page from Harper Lee’s book. (She wrote To Kill a Mockingbird-one of the greatest novels of all time) When you achieve such greatness, the chances of being that great are slim to none. I feel like I’m being tricked by the studios (which, of course I am…it’s all about the money and just the money) to go watch a movie that I know will disappoint me. Sequels just aren’t my bag, baby.

I honestly hope that this one falls through…even more than the Lost Boys II…seriously.
